Konami is prepping what could be the final run of Metal Gear Solid hype, and this gamescom 2015 trailer could be the last we see of it before the launch trailer on Sept 1.
So much to talk about in this trailer. For one thing, this is the closest that Metal Gear Solid has ever come to being genuinely Hollywood, as this trailer looks like it was ripped straight from a film trailer website. Creator Hideo Kojima always wanted to make his series more like a Hollywood action movie, and it’s great that he finally could before he ends his run,.
We also get to hear more of Keifer Sutherland’s voice acting for Snake than we ever have before, and no matter what fellow voice actor Troy Baker says, I am having a really hard time accepting it. He just doesn’t sound like Snake at all. I’m still waiting to hold off full judgement on him, but it’s not looking good so far.
And finally, we get a bit of a taste of what Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is truly about: Snake’s “turn to the dark side,” or so to say. The trailer even drops the line “No, there is another,” as a Star Wars reference. The legendary soldier is an inspiration on the battlefield, but here he becomes the violent and ruthless leader that will cast him as the villain in the very first Metal Gear game.

He doesn’t look like a devil for just no particular reason, you know. He even has a new horn and red skin to prove it!
One further point of interest is a new character who has lava for skin. No, seriously, this flaming character throws molten liquid from his fingers and burns enemies to a crisp. Is that Snake? He has the same horn, doesn’t he?
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released on Sept. 1 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
