#Gamescom2015 Mafia III Announced

post
Mafia III looks to be quite different to the first two games with a new lead character, a new setting and a new time period through which to romp.

Mafia III was announced today by way of a single teaser image that depicts four people (what appears to be three men and a woman) standing outside of their cars as a poor soul kneels in front of them. This person is apparently awaiting some mob justice.

Players will take on the role of Lincoln Clay in 1968, as he returns home after being a soldier in the Vietnam war. Of course, what gamers like even more than a cinematic trailer is a gameplay trailer, luckily we’ve got one of Mafia III in action.
Mafia III will feature an open world full of the rich culture that New Orleans has to offer. However, there were no concrete updates as to how things were progressing until last week, when a tweet from Mafia Game confirmed it, announcing the worldwide reveal of the trailer for its third installment, “Mafia 3″. These choices have an impact on the story, according to the developer, as well as on New Orleans overall.

The story involves a mission of revenge against the Italian Mafia, and will see Lincoln building a crime empire of his own.
We all have an image of the mob, Italian-American wise guys with slicked back hair, impeccable pinstriped suits and wingtipped leather shoes, shined to a gloss, a romanticised image that the Mafia series has stuck to, until now. At the time in the deep south, violent racism was a part of life. Clay, who was both black and a Vietnam war veteran, is subject to do the same conflict, GameSpot reports.
It takes place in New Orleans, and sees Clay attempt to bring together gang leaders to serve as lieutenants in his battle against the mob.

Lincoln’s core crew includes rough-edged Irishman Burke, woman of colour Cassandra, and Mafia II protagonist Vito Scaletta. Otherwise, they will fight or turn against the player, IGN has learned.

Mafia III will be revealed in more detail next week during Gamescom by way of an announcement trailer.

No information was provided regarding platforms, but the game's website reveals the newly formed Hangar 13 as the developer. Mafia II was developed by 2K Czech. Haden Blackman, who worked at LucasArts in the 1990s and 2000s, is leading the team at Hangar 13.

"Mafia III is the next installment in the popular series known for immersing players into a world of organized crime through rich narrative storytelling and a beautifully crafted game world featuring period-accurate cars, music, and fashion," 2K said in a statement.
